Stations, Programmers and Talent, We Need Your Help!
COVID-19 has put our nation’s homeless veterans at risk of life or death. They need our help right now. We have housed 3,700 veterans in 25 states, and want to urgently house 1000 more.
With over 37,000 veterans still sleeping on cardboard, a growing number of stations and artists are urgently working with us to move them from cardboard to a headboard in a warm, safe home of their own – because we should – because we can!
Radio has always been an effective media to rally the nation to help veterans in need. We need your help getting the word out. Whether just running our PSAs, or engaging your station and talent, you will help move more veterans from #Cardboard2Headboard. We want your help because they need our help.
The #Cardboard2Headboard Campaign Engagement Overview
-
Run our #Cardboard2Headboard Campaign liners and engage your talent to do the same or create their own.
-
Engage your audience on air, and online to join your station’s co-branded #Cardboard2Headboard campaign.
-
We can work with you to identify revenue generating sponsorship opportunities.
-
Any ideas YOUR team has to get every veteran in your region, state and nation a home for the brave.
STATION AND TALENT ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
We have suggested scripts that you can use below, or better yet, personalize it to your station and talent. Maybe you know a veteran, have a relative who is a veteran or maybe you are a veteran yourself. Or maybe you are just a grateful American who wants to help the people who protected us without asking for thanks. Run that PSA 100% or rotate with other format appropriate artists and celebrities who have joined the mission. Scripts and mp3s found on this page.
Ask your audience to call in voicing their support for homeless veterans and Veteran’s Matter’s Cardboard2Headboard campaign. Ask them to shoot their own video of them writing an appeal on cardboard, then post the video and images to your social, and their social media channels and have them tag the station, Veterans Matter and #Cardboard2Headboard.
Use your creative brilliance to shoot one of yourself and post it on all the station’s social media channels. Challenge your audience to do the same. Ask other jocks on your station or on other stations in your cluster to do one too and post it. Tag Veterans Matter and #Cardboard2Headboard on all videos please so we can share what you’re doing across the Veterans Matter community.
There are successful Veteran Matters fund raising events across the nation that not only can raise money to get homeless veterans into permanent housing, but they can also be additional paths for the station to create sticky audience engagement and satisfy client demands for additional promotional market exposure. We can show you several ideas that you can use as a turnkey or as idea starters.
Fit your support for Veterans Matter into your calendar when you can. Homeless Veterans is not a seasonal thing-it’s all year long so it will be relevant whenever you can make an issue of it, not just now or Veterans Day.
As our talent roster grows, we can invite them to do an interview with your station by phone or zoom, as to why homeless veterans so urgently need us right now! Record it and post it across all of the station’s social media channels and remember to tag the artist and Veterans Matter to show the nation you are part of this campaign.
Conduct a phone interview with Veterans Matter Founder, Ken Leslie. He is adroit at motivating listeners to support your station’s efforts.
Have your station or talent lend your voice by recording a PSA audio and/or video for our national radio and social media campaign. You know what’s best for your markets. Tag #Cardboard2Headboard so we can mention your station. Copy ideas:

Note from Ken, Advocate-in-Chief
Add a pandemic that is killing the most vulnerable, you understand our sense of urgency and why we are working tirelessly to get every veteran we can, housed as fast as we can.
Having been homeless myself, I know even one more night might be one too many for the 37,085 homeless veterans living on the streets of our nation.
There are homeless veterans this very minute who have ready and waiting housing but cannot go in simply because they do not have the deposit. I created a way to solve this problem and immediately get the veteran housed, which to date, has helped over 3,700 veterans get housed in 25 states.
Now, the veterans need us more than ever. It is literally life and death.
Though we are housing twice the number of veterans as last year, the pandemic has drastically reduced corporate and major donors. We want to unite the entertainment and radio industries to raise one million dollars to house 1000 more veterans.
We want to use the #Carboard2Headboard campaign as a vehicle to unite us all. We hope you will join us right now; veterans are dying for us to help them. They are not alone, they have YOU!
It really is simple: When you know veterans will die if you don’t, you just do. So we fight for them. We will never quit fighting for our Veterans, just as they never quit fighting for us.
Ken Leslie – Advocate-in-Chief
