2020 BC (Before COVID)

Hey all — it looks like we are almost to the point of leaving our year-long hibernation and resuming our lives.

Despite the pandemic, last year we had our best year ever and housed 750 veterans. This year, we will work to give 1,000 more veterans their own home for the brave in the land of the free.

We will do this together, so let’s get started. . .

The damn-pendic left us with a shload of pent-up energy stored since from 2020 B.C. . . but it looks like this year we can party like it’s 2019!

Today, we announced some of the events being planned for Veterans Matter and 1Matters. Of course, they are all pending CDC, State, and Local Health Department allowances, so for now think of these as more like save-the-dates.

For Veterans Matter:

The Denny Schaffer Summer Disco Party to Benefit Veterans Matter will be held August 13th, again at Hensville. We’ve been monitoring this with the Mudhens organization, and most experts now expect full vaccinations by the end of June. Fingers crossed.

If it can be held, tix will go on sale July 4th. To join the mailing list for updates, get sponsor information, or to reserve a sponsor slot, email disco@veteransmatter.org.

Save November 24th, the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving for the “Damn Right We are Giving Thanks — Denny Schaffer Thanksgiving Disco Plus Party to Benefit Veterans Matter.” I made up the title, but it works for now. This party will at the Seagate Convention Centre. Again, same disclaimer. At first this was going to be a back-up date, but we did a survey of past attendees who overwhelmingly said, “have both parties.” We will get you more information in early summer.

On Veterans Day, the Veterans Matter Walk to End Veteran Homelessness and 11/11 @ 7 events with the Exchange Clubs will again take place locally. It worked so well last year, both events will still have the national virtual broadcast so everyone can join us nationwide.

Also, on Veterans Day we will be having the 2nd Annual Veterans Matter Veterans Day Honor-Thon. The pilot last year was in six cities and we expect over 30 stations nationwide to join us this year.

For 1Matters:

We will be having our Tent City 30th Year Celebration on October 22 – 24. The 30th anniversary was actually last year, but ya’ know. . .

Many of our national partners are also planning their events and we will keep you updated on their scheduling as well.

I think that’s enough to get us started!

We will do this, together.
